I didn't buy a next-gen console. I had a PS4 preordered since E3, but cancelled it due to a shortage of both money and fucks to give. Neither console gives me much incentive to buy right away. I don't need a new box to play Netflix and Call of Duty with a few more polygons. I'm going to wait until the games I really want are close. Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, Watch Dogs, Infamous, and The Order: 1886 are high on my list of most anticipated games, so a PS4 would be collecting dust for the next few months until they come around.
People are talking a lot about the battle for supremacy between the PS4 and Xbox, but they're all picking a losing side. The console I'm really excited for offers something far more unique than either next-gen box. I am of course talking about the Hyperkin RetroN 5.
It's a system that runs multiple retro cartridge-based systems. Ten fucking systems. And it works with the original controllers, too. I only have an original NES in my possession, and finding a cheap Genesis or SNES has proven very difficult. The RetroN 5 is a dream come true. I'm so excited I've already started buying whatever retro games I can get my hands on.
Okay, maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself. The system has already been delayed multiple times. It can't be easy shoving ten systems into one and playing every game from two decades of software. It was supposed to some out on December 10th, but got delayed into 2014 due to problems with the pins in some of the systems.
Still, this is one of the most exciting pieces of hardware on the horizon. It would be nice if it had a Nintendo 64 slot built in, but I've already got one, so I'm not hurting too bad. Maybe it will be in the RetroN 6. And maybe the RetroN 7 will have a disk slot. It's weird to think that one day the PS4 and Xbox One probably will be made into these types of consoles.
